On the 27th June 2011 More Adventure (www.moreadventure.co.uk) coordinated the UK’s first organised Muslim charity cycle from John O’ Groats to Lands End. During the 35-day trip we cycled 1500 miles, visited around twenty cities and encounter numerous mosques and cultural centres within the UK. At each city we visited, we were welcomed by the whole Muslim community who had come out to support the efforts of Al Khair, a disaster relief charity that support millions of people worldwide every year.
Al Khair
The Al-Khair Foundation is the UK’s most prominent Muslim charity. Since its conception in 2003 it has raised money for numerous charitable works including the Pakistan Floods and the Japan Earthquake. It is also heavily involved with building schools for orphans and shelters for widows and vulnerable woman. Their website can be found at www.alkhair.org.

The event was shown on the Sky channel Iqra (http://www.sky826.com) and there was live coverage of the cycle challenge and its support. This coverage raised the profile of The Al-Khair Foundation and this ground breaking event. In addition to this, we were interviewed by countless local television companies and were featured in a number of newspapers and magazines.
This charity cycling event took a great deal of organising, with a full support team to coordinate. This included an entourage of two professional film crews in Range Rovers, a sleeper tour bus and numerous other support staff and crew.
After 35 days of cycling, the team finally pulled into Lands End to a huge welcoming party. They had travelled over 1500 miles and visited countless cities to drum up support along the way.
How much did they raise?
The event raised a staggering £950,000 for Al Khair!
